About albemarle

albemarle is a lifestyle magazine originating from the birthplace of Thomas Jefferson. We are committed to Jeffersonian ideals: intellectual depth, love for the land, historic and cultural significance, humor, and celebration of life. Much of the content is regional and seeks to enlighten, educate, and entertain readers who are long-time residents, newcomers, and visitors to Charlottesville and albemarle County. We also publish articles on wide ranging topics.

Approach and submissions

We assign work and also consider freelance material. Please query first. We prefer email queries. In addition to your article proposal, please tell us about yourself and indicate whether you would be interested in doing articles on assignment, and if so, list your areas of interest and expertise.

Please submit queries in written form and include a resume and writing samples with first-time queries.

Once an article has been accepted and completed, we prefer to receive articles either on disk or email (editorial@albemarlemagazine.com). We accept most standard DOS and MacIntosh Files.

We expect original, researched and literary-quality work.

We accept nonfiction work only.

albemarle is published six times a year: February—March, April—May, June—July, August—September, October—November, and December—January. Please read our publication so you have a good grasp of our style and content.
