Over forty member magazines from around the world submitted entries to this year’s competition to be considered for a variety of editorial and design awards. An independent panel of experts with no affiliation to IRMA was selected by the association's Board of Directors and Executive Director to judge submissions.

IRMA presented albemarle with four awards. The magazine received the Award of Merit in the Column category for “Last Laugh.” The award recognized “A Small Bite of Chocolate,” “A Perfect Season,” and “Much Ado about ‘I Do.’” These columns appeared in the February/March, April/May, and June/July 2008 issues respectively. The column was written by Louise B. Parsley. The gold award in this category was presented to British Columbia Magazine, Blue Ridge Country, and Louisiana Life. The silver medal was awarded to Wyoming Wildlife while Maryland Life received the bronze medal.

The gold in this category went to Adirondack Life, the silver to Missouri Life, and the Award of Merit to Delaware Beach Life.

IRMA also presented albemarle with the silver medal in the Overall Art Direction, Up to 40,000 Circulation category for the year 2008.
